Toiletries In Shopping Basket

De Sucre Cochabamba in the "valleys" of the Bolivian May 11 to 21

After the rigor of the altiplano, we arrive at Sugar , the constitutional capital of the country and the symbolic heart of the nation (it was there that declare the independence of Bolivia). Beautiful city with colonial architecture, beautiful set of white buildings ... It's nickname is " the White City. "
Sugar, nestled in a valley, is only 2,700 meters (!): There is a certain sweetness of life. It's hot, no need to heat the night to withstand freezing temperatures. And for the first time since the beginning of the trip, we offered a short stay at the hotel ... and it's not unpleasant. Anthony still finds way to be sick for one of the few times of travel.
We're now four days in this beautiful city, where the atmosphere looks more like Spain than Bolivia. We enjoy the " almuerzos " breakfast menu for just 1 Euro, we visit the beautiful Museum of Art with the exhibition of textile weaving local cultures Jalq'a and Tarabuco (surrounding areas), we stroll in the Mercado Central and the beautiful place 25 de Mayo ... well, four days at a very "tranquilo .

the road again towards Cochabamba. This road, which turns out to be rather a track passes through beautiful valleys, s landscapes have really nothing to do with the Altiplano ... On the road, we do not come across many cars there are in fact very few cars in Bolivia, inaccessible from the standard of living. There are essentially trucks carrying goods and Bolivians, the "truck bus.
We sleep on the very nice places in the colonial architecture of villages and Totoro Tarata where the camper is widely noticed some mobs causing more or less sympathetic villagers ...
Not Enough went to market Tarabuco , we go to that Punata . Very few tourists, the market is exclusively for the premises. Here, we sell everything and everywhere: pigs, donkeys, cows alongside vendors of fruit and vegetables, cola, clothes, shoes ...
tires Very far from Europe in the heart of Bolivia, this step was exotic and pleasant.

For our last camp before joining La Paz, we sleep as often in a small village. We are moving slowly on a median strip which appears flat (the forklift drivers include camping) and quiet and who finally reveals be the courtyard of a boarding school for children in the area ... here we are quickly surrounded by the 70 residents who all eventually go up to visit the site because .... and showering, from what we understand they had never seen.
They make us visit their school, their bedroom, we kindly offer to drink and breakfast the next day. A beautiful meeting before returning to La Paz and its tumult.

What To Do About Ptosis

The Bolivian Altiplano: La Paz to Uyuni via Potosi, from May 3 to 11

On 3 May we leave The Pa z and we regain the heights of the Altiplano towards the south west of Bolivia. The 500 km (on a paved road, something rare here ...) that separate us from Potosi us discover the beautiful landscapes of the Altiplano: small remote villages, lakes, herds of llamas and vicuña, pretty pink and green everywhere ...

After a first bivouac near Oruro we reach Potosi, the city (over 100,000 inhabitants) the highest in the world: even when we sleep more than 4000 meters. And here the nights are cool ... The city was one of the richest cities in South America through its Cerro Rico, the neighboring mountain that was full (it mildly) of silver. This mountain, alone, has allowed Spain to get rich for two centuries through the exploitation of local labor, cheap as free, mostly Indian and some African slaves. ... A frightening balance of 8 million people in two centuries (!).

After independence, the lack of European mercury to purify the precious metal, has hastened the decline of the city whose population had dropped to the late 19th century more than 10,000 inhabitants. At its peak in the mid 18th century it had over 200,000 inhabitants and was the largest city in the world.
Today, the city still has a beautiful colonial architecture and beautiful monuments (visit the convent of Santa Teresa a bit long and shortened by the agitation of Anthony ...)
We spend a day walk and climb, the narrow streets of this city ... Many thanks again to the many entertainment markets.

We find again and Armelle Francis returning from Salar de Uyuni and motivate us to go with our camper. Our doubts raised, so it's gone for 200 kms of pistes, bump, 25 mph medium and 11 hours driving direction Uyuni. Nice little break on the road where we find French compatriots who undertook an epic cycling from Ushuaia to Lima with their baby daughter Nina in a cart ... especially at these altitudes brave!

short, we have finally arrived in Uyuni and the next day we reach the Salar with our smart camper who faded in the middle of "some" 4 x 4 (thank you to them, they leave nice and neat to find ...) The
Salar de Uyuni is the most serious nd salt store in the world, a kind of sea salt it's beautiful, even spectacular ... We drive 80 km on the Salar, in the midst of this vast white to achieve Isla Incahuasi the center of the Salar, covered with giant cacti. The panorama was the top of the island is amazing, it really has never seen that before ... We're paying the luxury of spending a night in the middle of the Salar, alone in the world .... Magical.
We were really overwhelmed by the beauty of the Salar, Antoine about him, he still believes he has played in the snow ...

Oven Cookies Burn On Bottom

La Paz - Bolivia - April 24 to May 2

After passing the border Bolivian carefree particular, through the National Park Sajama (named after its volcano) where herds of alpaca and vicuña follow, rode 300 km on the Altiplano (a road almost perfect straight line when we is still at 3500 meters or more, it's weird ...) we finally arrive in La Paz and night ... and by
heights El Alto, a city in the city, district People mainly inhabited by Aymara (Indian) and located more than over 4000 meters.

we "descend" and cross all La Paz. Useless clear that the journey was pretty sporty with cars in all directions (80% of minibus and taxi) honking instead of braking, pedestrians crossing everywhere, and a road not always enlightened (especially in El Alto ), a short finish that puts us right away in the bath this very busy city.

We therefore arrive at the Hotel Oberland in the southern city, a well-known address of the camping car owners, it is possible to bivouac in the garden. Security for the camper, health, children's playground, an indoor pool, WiFi (luxury for which we are accustomed to Internet cafes) and moreover altitude (3200 meters) more tolerable for a good night ... And all this at half the center of La Paz in bus, in short, a good place!

We will stay there for ten days, and spend 3 days with Francis Armelle and we once again left with a lot of fun. Antoine never tires of playing with their brooms and keeps asking where to spend "Amelle!

And what was our surprise at the end of our stay to see happen in the garden of the hotel a registered camper French "26" ... The Drôme in South America!

Our discovery Bolivia begins in the capital, the highest in the world, staged from 3200 meters - where we sleep, a chance! - Over 4000 meters.
Hotel is located in the rich neighborhood, down the city while the neighborhoods are located at the top. We find very beautiful houses, all kinds of international brands ... no one imagines Bolivia (60% of the population lives below the poverty line).

buses or "minibus" taxis or lead us in the center. Many people, traffic, horns, buses, markets of all kinds every street corner ... it's bustling.
Many color too, with all these women in traditional dress (the Chollas) who wear their babies, or merchandise on the back, and also in the many shops crammed sweatshirts, hats, shawls, fabrics, carpets and blankets ... The city is really full of life, and is a pleasure to walk. An happiness as for the "shopping" nothing is expensive here!

Anyway, this city seems far from the image that we are doing. The (very) real poverty is far from certain cartoons that we could do. People are pleasant, cheerful and easy contact, begging rather unobtrusive, and a real sense of security with us everywhere. We walk (and climb!) Very quietly in the streets,
Its location in the heart of the Andes, collected in a valley surrounded by mountains, is truly amazing in an environment where no one would think possible to build a city.

Now heading south to Bolivia ... Potosi, Uyuni and Sucre ...
